Limpers Everywhere? Here's How Much to Raise

Every limper adds money to the pot and another player who may continue. A useful live-poker baseline is to add roughly one big blind to your normal raise for each limper.

By Ed Reif · The Poker Lobotomy

LEAKUsing the same open-raise size after one, two, or three players have already limped.
RULEStart with your normal raise and add about 1 BB per limper as a practical baseline.
BETTER DECISIONSize to isolate, charge passive ranges, and avoid creating a cheap family pot with a hand that performs better against fewer opponents.

Why this matters

A raise that works as an unopened-pot size can be too small after several limpers have entered. The pot is already larger, callers are receiving a better price, and each additional caller improves the price for the next one.

The exact size still depends on stack depth, position, table tendencies, and whether limpers are sticky. The rule is a starting point for avoiding accidental multi-way pots, not a substitute for reading the table.

Fast example

If your normal live open is 3 BB and two players limp, a baseline isolation raise around 5 BB gives the limpers a less attractive price than simply repeating the original 3 BB size.

One leak. One hand. One rule. One better decision.
