The River Cards That Should Stop Your Third Barrel
The River Cards That Should Stop Your Third Barrel
The river has to justify the third bluff. Your flop and turn investment does not.
Why this matters
A two-street bluff creates emotional momentum. After betting twice, checking the river can feel like surrender. That is sunk-cost thinking. Each street is a new decision with new information.
Good triple barrels usually have structural support: a runout that favors your range, blockers that remove strong calls, and an opponent capable of folding enough of the range that reached the river.
Fast example
You bluff flop and turn, then a river arrives that improves the caller’s natural continues and changes none of your credible value. Firing because “I have to finish the story” is not a reason. The story must still make sense to the range facing it.
